PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, Beggs, all present. Also present: Corey Leftwich, and Justin Savage.
Watson motioned to approve the minutes from May 12th, as well as approve the agenda for the meeting with the removal of Resolution 2023-17 for the transfer to Secondary Roads. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Matt Strueby spoke in public comments, requesting an update on the tax abatement discussion for rural new construction properties in Taylor County. The Board advised they are awaiting a draft for discussion.
There were no committee reports.
Savage presented updates to the Board on the roads in Athelstan. He also presented a utility permit near Lenox for approval. Watson motioned to approve the utility permit, as well as the previous utility permits reviewed and signed-off on previously, retroactive for the month of May 2023. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
The Board discussed the Weed Commissioner position. Beggs motioned to appoint Raymond Olney to the position as stated and previously discussed. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
Savage advised he was approached about the donation of property to the County, and for the sale of property being utilized by the Secondary Roads department. The stipulation of the donor is for the County to acquire an appraisal on the property. Watson motioned to approve Savage acquiring an appraisal for the property being donated, and the property being considered for sale. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Savage presented quotes for the purchase of a pressure washer for the Secondary Roads department. Watson motioned to approve the quote for the purchase of a Hotsy Pressure Washer for $16,239.00. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
The Board discussed the Safety Committee membership and structure. The Board advised they would like representation from each department on the committee to be decided upon by their department. Fitzgerald recommended Belinda lead the committee. Watson motioned to approve as stated. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Guilliatt presented a request for the improvement and use of 619 Court Ave by Public Health to provide services for residents and expand offerings through partnerships with other organizations. The Board advised they will not take any action to sell the property at this time and would like follow-up from Public Health when they are ready to offer services.
The Board discussed the sale of 203 Main Street for an offer received. The Board advised they will publish a notice for the public hearing to occur on June 8th, at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors’ room and the sale to be decided upon at 10:00 a.m. Clint Spurrier gave updates on the process, and it was determined that the discussion did not need to occur in closed session. Watson therefore motioned for the approval of Resolution 2023-17 setting the hearing for property disposition. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
The Board reviewed topics for discussion in future meetings. Watson motioned to adjourn the meeting. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
