PROCEEDINGS FOR THE

TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024, Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson and Beggs present.  Also present:  Judy Henry, Rob Welch, and Justin Savage.

Watson made a motion to approve the Minutes from March 7, 2024, meeting and Agenda for today’s meeting.  Beggs seconded.  MC 3-0.

Public comments:

Rob Welch stated the Windmill project is progressing along as expected. 

Committee Report:

Watson attended the R.C. & D. meeting.

Secondary Roads:

There were no utility permits to present.  Savage suggested including a starting wage when the Board decides to post for his replacement. Also shared when they are looking that a Civil and Construction Engineering degree were about the same.  Savage has been approached about moving Garden Ave., South of 320th St., from a Level B to Level A classification.  The Board would like to speak to the landowners in that area before making a decision.   Savage presented a map of roads that could possibly be vacated or change classifications on them.  This is an attempt to cut costs.  It was tabled for a later date.

New Business:

Crystal Drake and Belinda Ogle joined the meeting.  Drake stated Public Health was not awarded an Endowment Grant.  She was requesting ARPA funds to cover the remaining cost of the Generator Project.  The Board tabled it for a later date.  Ogle stated EMA did not receive an Endowment Grant for the Interoperable Public Safety Radio Communication System.  She was requesting to have ARPA funds pay for the remaining cost of the project.  Watson made a motion to use ARPA funds to pay the complete cost of $64,158.84 from the ARPA funds.  The Board has already approved the use of $54,000.  Fitzgerald seconded the motion. MC 3-0.

Treasurer, Dana Davis joined the meeting. Davis was requesting to abate the taxes on Lot 1 Blk 19 Corp Blockton, total cost of $309 and to sign over the tax certificate to Pine Grove Investments, Inc.  The lot had part of a house on it that belonged to Pine Grove, the 2 lots will be combined into one by the Assessors office.  Beggs made a motion to abate the taxes on Lot 1 Blk 19 Corp Blockton.  Watson seconded the motion. 

MC 3-0.

Auditor Henry will share her budget with the Board on March 21, 2024.

Recorder Rick Sheley and Auditor Henry updated the Board on sharing an employee for the remainder of the year.  Henry spoke to the County Attorney and State Auditor, both approved of the situation.

Old Business:

None

The Board reviewed and approved claims to be paid.

The Board discussed topics of discussion for future meetings.

Beggs made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
