PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson and Beggs all present. Also, present Auditor, Judy Henry, Rob Welch and Jared Hershberger. Watson made a motion to approve the minutes from April 18, 2024, and Agenda for today’s meeting. Beggs seconded the motion . MC 3-0.
Public Comments:
Jarod reported he has been busy awarding grant checks including Lenox PTO and sponsor at the Taylor County Fair. Welch said the Windmill project is moving along as expected.
Committee Report:
Fitzgerald reported on the Crossroads meeting. Watson reported on the Southern Hills meeting.
Secondary Road Report:
Belinda reported the Board will need to set a date for Bid Letting for Pipe. Watson made a motion to set May 9, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. for Pipe Bids. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
New Business:
Auditor Henry was notified by State Auditor’s that Taylor County will need to hold a public hearing and make a resolution to cease being the fiscal agent for South Central Iowa Regional E-911 Service Board. Prior Auditor Murphy quit acting as the fiscal agent but no official notice was given in terms of the 28-E Agreement to the State of Iowa. Watson made a motion to hold the public hearing on May 16th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
Stephen Gruba, MD turned in his letter of resignation as Medical Examiner for Adams and Taylor County.
Crystal Drake joined the Board at 9:30 to give a Public Health update on services provided by her department. Besides providing care to patients they have provided several programs for the citizens of Taylor County. CPR, AED Training, Better Snacks, Babysitting class are just a few of the things that they have helped with. Drake stated Taylor County Public Health received a 5 Star rating for Medicare.gov.
At 9:55 Cole Walters, Cindy Cox, Kristi Ritchie and Roseann Sunderman joined the Board to discuss projects that had been accomplished in towns throughout the County. Cole Walters was requesting funds to go towards a Taylor County Grant program that would allow towns to apply for grants from the ARPA funds to help area towns with projects. Walters suggested having towns fill out a form for a grant request and having the Board or committee decide on who would be awarded. The Board thanked the group for coming in, no decision was made.
Old Business:
Culp spoke with the Board on painting the walls in the bottom floor meeting room. Watson made a motion to have the ceiling replaced in the conference room on the lower level of the Courthouse. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
The Board reviewed and approved claims to be paid.
The Board discussed topics of discussion for future meetings.
Beggs made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
