The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, Beggs, all present. Also present: Corey Leftwich, Josh Good, Kimberly Watson, Judy Henry, Amanda Masilko, Rob Welch, and Justin Savage.
Watson motioned to approve the minutes from April 3rd and April 7th with amendments, as well as approve the agenda for today’s meeting. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Questions were posed to Welch regarding the wind turbines and projects being discussed in Taylor County. Discussion continued on the wind turbine topic.
Ron reported on his committee meeting with Workforce.
Savage provided updates on Secondary Roads and had no utility permits for approval. He also discussed the sign topic for bridges as a result of the bridge survey. Watson motioned we add signs to every bridge that has weight restrictions. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Savage advised the Board he would like to post for the position of Weed Commissioner since it needs to be filled.
The Board reviewed the Solar Ordinance and advised they will schedule a hearing in May.
Virtual access to the Board meetings was discussed. Gallagher inquired into why the Board is discussing no longer allowing it. All three Supervisors agreed to table the discussion for now.
Beggs motioned to go into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5 (1)(j) to discuss an offer received for the purchase of 203 Main Street. Watson seconded. Fitzgerald, Watson, Beggs, aye. MC 3-0.
The Board returned from closed session. Watson motioned to not accept the current verbal offer of $60,000 for the purchase of 203 Main Street at this time. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Jerry Longfellow presented a request to the Board to have brush cleared on J55 East of Quail.
The Board reviewed topics for discussion in future meetings. Watson motioned to adjourn the meeting. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
