The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, Beggs, all present. Also present: Corey Leftwich, and Justin Savage.
Beggs motioned to approve the minutes from July 31st, as well as approve the agenda for the meeting. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
Jarod Hershberger reported on the grants that were provided to various entities throughout Taylor County and encouraged others to apply for remaining grants.
There were no committee reports.
Savage presented an update on Secondary Roads and advised there are no utility permits for approval. Savage requested a purchase from the Board of a 2023 Ram 1500 Crew Cab for
$42,299.00. Watson motioned to approve the purchase as requested. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Andrew Johnson presented the quote from RJ’s Plumbing & Heating repairing and replacing some of the HV AC in the Courthouse. The Board advised they will review the quote and tabled a decision at this time. Shellia Culp advised of concerns with upcoming snow removal for the winter, the heat pumps outside being cleaned.
Leftwich presented a request for updates from the Board on how to proceed with medical benefits for employees when both spouses are employed by the County. The Board agreed to give employees who desire family medical coverage the benefit of receiving that family medical coverage at no cost. Watson motioned to approve no cost family medical insurance when both spouses are employed by the county. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
Leftwich requested an update from the Board on the amount the Board wishes to contribute to Southern Iowa RC&D. Leftwich advised that they requested $5,000.00. Beggs motioned to contribute $4,000 this year. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
The Board reviewed and approved a claim to be paid.
Leftwich advised that the audit from the state will require a Board member for the entrance interview. The Board agreed Watson will attend the meeting.
Leftwich presented a letter of resignation to the Board of Supervisors, resigning from his position at the end of business on August 141\ 2023. Leftwich advised the Board they will want to consult with the County Attorney on next steps to fill the vacancy that will occur in the office, and that tasks have already been delegated to his staff. Beggs motioned to accept the resignation. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
The Board reviewed topics for discussion in future meetings. Beggs motioned to adjourn the meeting. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
