The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in special session at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, Beggs, all present. Also present: Corey Leftwich, Josh Good and Justin Savage.
Beggs motioned to approve the agenda for the meeting. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
Beggs motioned to open the second public hearing for the Solar Ordinance proposal. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
Amanda Masilko presented the findings of her research into solar farms. Discussion was held on the controversary surrounding solar farms, and whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Masilko provided handouts to the Board outlining the research she had completed with associated articles. Discussion continued regarding whether erosion should be considered in the Ordinance and how to combat potential erosion concerns.
Dennis Norton recommended we consult with experts to understand the impacts of the decisions being made regarding the Ordinance.
The Board agreed to have a meeting in the future with an expert on solar who can answer questions on solar and potentially provide guidance on how to address concerns in the draft of the ordinance.
Beggs motioned to close the second public hearing for the Solar Ordinance proposal. Watson seconded. MC 3-0.
Watson motioned to adjourn the meeting. Beggs seconded. MC 3-0.
