As many of you know, Taylor County has been waiting for our redistricting and reprecincting maps from the Secretary of State and the Legislative Service Agency. These are the agency’s responsible for drawing the new voting precincts as new supervisor districts.  The maps are redone with the census every 10 years.  The new voting precincts are as follows:

Precinct 1:

Jackson, Polk, and Ross Townships; and that portion of Benton Township west of a line beginning at the intersection of the centerline of State Highway 148 and the North line of Benton Township, thence south along the highway centerline to the south line of Benton Township.  Will vote in Bedford at the American Legion.

Precinct 2:

Bedford, Clayton, Gay, and Jefferson Townships; and that portion of Benton Township east of a line beginning at the intersection of the centerline of State Highway 148 and the North line of Benton Township, thence south along the highway centerline to the south line of Benton Township.  Also, the City of Bedford and City of Blockton. Will vote in Bedford at the American Legion.

Precinct 3:

Grant Township and the City of Clearfield within Taylor County; Platte Township; and that portion of Grove Township east of a line beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Oregon Avenue and the north line of Grove Township (and Taylor County), thence south along the centerline of Oregon Avenue to the south line of Grove Township.  Also, the City of Lenox within Taylor County. Will vote in Lenox at the Community Center.

Precinct 4:

Holt, Marshall, and Washington Townships; and that portion of Grove Township west of a line beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Oregon Avenue and the north line of Grove Township (and Taylor County), thence south along the centerline of Oregon Avenue to the south line of Grove Township.   Will vote in Gravity at the Fire Station.

Precinct 5:

Dallas, Mason, and Nodaway Townships.  Will vote in New Market at the Community Center.

This redistricting has also changed Supervisor Districts. 

Supervisor District 1 will be Precincts 1,4 and 5.

Supervisor District 2 will be Precinct 2.

Supervisor District 3 will be Precinct 3.

The Primary Election is June 7, 2022, and with all the changes all Supervisor Districts will be on the ballot for Primary Election and the General Election this fall.

Supervisor District 1 will be elected for a 4-year term.

Supervisor District 2 will be elected for a 2-year term.

Supervisors District 3 will be elected for a 4-year term. 

If you are interested in filing for this position the Secretary of State is recommending that all candidates collect 100 signatures from eligible voters in their district as well as file, the Affidavit of Candidacy. 

Other local races on the ballot for Primary Election are County Treasurer, County Attorney, County Recorder signature requirements are 37 for Republican Candidates and 11 for Democrat Candidates.  These numbers are derived from the party’s voter turn out at the last election. 

One Township Trustee and the Township Clerk from every township are also up for election.  The filing period for them is now but will not appear on the ballot until the General Election November 8, 2022.

The filing period is March 7, 2022-March 25, 2022.  All candidates must file in the Auditor’s Office at the Courthouse.
