PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Supervisor Fitzgerald called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson and Beggs present. Also, present Auditor, Judy Henry, Jim Rowe, Rob Welch, Josh Good and Jerry Longfellow.
Beggs made a motion to approve the agenda for today and the minutes from September 19, 2024, Board Meeting. Watson seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
Public Comments:
Jerry Longfellow spoke to the Board about roadside and ditch brush. He requested the Board make an ordinance or law pertaining to landowners keeping their portion of the roadside/ditches cleaned up.
Committee Report:
None.
Secondary Road Report:
Rowe presented a SIRWA utility permit for pipe under Colt Ave in Polk Township, Section 29. Watson made a motion to accept the Utility Permit. Beggs seconded the motion. MC. 3-0. Rowe presented a 2025 County Five Year Program Resolution 0.1. For unforeseen circumstances the plan needed modified. Project ID BRS-C087(76)—60-87 Holt 23 45129 funding and start date needed moved to 2025, the original funding and start date was set for 2026. Watson made a motion to move the project date and funding to 2025. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jeremy Rounds with SICOG presented their Annual Report and discussed projects they helped fund in Southwest Iowa. For Calendar year ending 2023, SICOG worked on 62 grant applications. Two grants were awarded to Taylor County, amounting to $216,500 in funding.
County funds sent to Taylor County Fire Association were returned due to fact the Association no longer has a bank account. After some Board discussion, Watson made a motion to split the funds equally between the 7 Taylor County Fire Departments. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
Sheriff Weed presented a quote agreement from Visual Edge for a lease agreement on a copy machine. The monthly fee is 102.50, a little cheaper than what they are currently paying. Beggs made a motion to accept the lease agreement. Watson seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
The Board worked with Josh Good, IT, to update some areas on the website.
County Attorney, Clint Spurrier submitted his official letter of resignation. Watson made a motion to accept the letter of resignation. Beggs seconded the motion. MC 3-0.
Henry reported that after some investigation by the Assessor’s Office, the Mike DeVoe property could not receive an abatement. It was determined Mr. DeVoe had not signed the proper paperwork until after the January 1st deadline. He will have to wait for the 2024 assessments to get the house removed.
OLD BUSINESS:
Shellia Culp reviewed Courthouse updates.
No Auditor update.
The Board worked on items for the next meeting.
Claims were reviewed and approved.
Beggs made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Watson seconded the motion. MC 3-0. Meeting adjourned.
